Generative AI Security Tips for Business Professionals

Generative AI is revolutionizing the way we work, enabling faster content creation, improved problem-solving, and enhanced innovation. However, it’s essential to be aware of the risk of using such tools and the security practices that can help protect us and our organizations. Here are five security practices Atlantic Digital recommend for dealing with Generative AI:

  1. Use a Trusted AI

With the ongoing AI boom there are new tools on the market every week, which is why it is crucial that to ensure that you are using AI tools from reputable and trusted sources. When choosing an AI tool you need to carefully review their terms of use and data handling policies and confirm that they are based in a region you would trust handing your data over to. Using a trusted AI helps minimize the risk of security breaches and is the minimum due diligence you should perform before using any modern AI tools. At Atlantic Digital, we have chosen Microsoft Copilot as it suits the security and privacy needs of a modern enterprise, however we are always reviewing the market and testing to ensure we are at the leading edge of AI performance and safety.

  2. Be Cautious with AI-Generated Content:

Always review and verify AI-generated content before using it. Generative AI can sometimes produce inaccurate or biased information. By carefully checking the content, you can avoid potential errors and ensure that the information is reliable and trustworthy.

  3. Protect Your Personal Information

Be mindful of the personal information you share with AI systems. Queries should be sanitized, removing any identifiable or sensitive information including but not limited to financial details, company information, personal information and account details. When in doubt you can always use substitute information in the place of sensitive data to achieve the same result while maintaining you and your companies privacy.

  4. Stay Informed About AI Security Risks

Keep yourself updated on the latest developments in AI security. Regularly review and update your security practices to address new vulnerabilities and threats. Consider changing AI provider to suit your privacy needs, such as if your current provider is at risk of a data breach or if a new AI has a privacy policy that better suits your needs.

  5. Report Suspicious Activity

If you encounter any suspicious activity or potential security threats while using Generative AI tools, report it immediately to your IT or security team. Prompt reporting can help prevent security breaches and protect your organization from potential harm.

Implementing these security practices will help you harness the power of Generative AI while protecting yourself and your organization from potential threats.
